SailPolars policies
Terms of use
The rules for sailing, racing and taking part in our community.
Last updated: · Version 3
1. The service and these terms
These terms apply to the SailPolars website, sailing game, training drills, online rooms, community features and events. ‘We’ means Paraply Ventures AS, the operator of SailPolars identified in section 10; ‘you’ means the person using the service. Please read these terms before using the service. Features that require recorded acceptance ask you to accept the current version in Sailor details.
SailPolars currently offers free access. These terms do not authorize subscription charges or purchases. If paid features are introduced, their price and conditions will be provided before you choose to buy.
The game is a simulation for practice and entertainment. Boat performance, weather, scenery and automated rule decisions are approximations. They are not navigation advice, a safety system, professional instruction, or an authoritative interpretation of real-world racing rules. Follow qualified instruction and applicable rules when sailing on the water.
The Privacy policy explains how the service handles personal data. Accepting these terms does not give consent to optional data processing.
2. Accounts and younger sailors
You can use guest features without creating an account. For an account, provide accurate information, keep your sign-in methods secure, and use only your own account. Do not sell, transfer, share or impersonate accounts, or create extra identities to evade a restriction or manipulate competition. Report suspected unauthorized access promptly.
You must be 13 or older to create an account. When you create one, you confirm that you are. Sailors under 13 can use the guest features, and take part in events through a club coach’s or a parent’s or guardian’s account. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we will close it and delete its private details as described in the Privacy policy.
Choose a display name that does not impersonate another person or contain abusive or unlawful material. Your public racing name can differ from your legal name. Event organizers may require accurate identity details and eligibility information, including a Sailor ID, country and date of birth.
If you are under 18, involve a parent or legal guardian and obtain their permission. Where local law requires parental authorization to provide an online service or process a child’s data, that authorization is required before using the affected features. Event-entry details require a guardian’s name and email for sailors under 18; entering those details alone does not verify parental authorization. Organizers may impose additional age and eligibility conditions. Do not submit a child’s information without authority to do so.
3. Fair play and community standards
- Race fairly. Do not use unauthorized automation, modified clients, fabricated inputs, exploits, collusion or false results to gain a competitive advantage.
- Treat others with respect. No harassment, threats, hate speech, sexual exploitation, bullying, impersonation, spam or publication of someone else’s private information.
- Share only content you have the right to share. Do not post unlawful material or infringe another person’s privacy, copyright or other rights.
- Do not disrupt rooms, overload the service, bypass security controls, obtain unauthorized access, distribute malware or evade moderation. Report vulnerabilities privately rather than exploiting them against other users.
Use the report controls available in messages and forums for inappropriate content. Club administrators and platform moderators have different review permissions. We may remove content, change an inappropriate name, mute communication or suspend an account where needed to enforce these standards or protect users. Contact us if you believe a decision is mistaken.
4. Your content and our software
You retain your rights in posts, images, messages and other content you submit. You give us a non-exclusive permission to store, display, deliver and reproduce that content as needed to operate the features you use, including moderation and technical backups. This permission does not transfer ownership or authorize unrelated advertising use. It ends when the content is removed, except for copies and records legitimately retained as explained in the Privacy policy.
Public posts and shared race recordings can be viewed or copied by others. Only share information you are comfortable making available to the intended audience. You may share recordings and screenshots of your own gameplay, respecting other people’s rights and any event restrictions.
We and our licensors retain rights in the service software, artwork and branding. You may use the service for its intended purpose. Separate open-source and third-party licenses continue to govern the components to which they apply. Do not misrepresent SailPolars, an event, or another organization as endorsing you.
5. Events, scoring and replays
A cup, ranked race or club event may have its own notice, eligibility requirements, schedule, scoring policy and review procedure. Read these before entering. Those rules govern that event’s sporting decisions; these terms continue to govern use of the platform. An event organizer is responsible for the commitments they make about their event. No prize, real-world qualification or external ranking is promised unless the event explicitly states it.
Online inputs and race records may be recorded to run races, verify outcomes, investigate faults and provide spectator views or replays. Published results, replay identities and rulings use the recorded racing display name. They may remain after a name change or account closure. A hidden profile does not make a published result private.
Training scores and casual results are not necessarily verified competitive results. Disconnects, invalid evidence and verification failures may affect an outcome. Use the event’s officials and published review procedure to question a sporting result; do not manipulate race records.
6. Availability and updates
We aim to provide a useful, reliable service, but do not promise uninterrupted access, a particular result, or compatibility with every device. Maintenance, network problems and software changes can interrupt play. We may update or retire features and correct errors. Where practicable, we will give reasonable notice of changes that materially affect accounts or ongoing events.
Links and optional sign-in services from other providers are subject to those providers’ terms. Their availability and practices are outside our control.
7. Closing an account and suspension
You may stop using the service at any time and close your account from Profile. Transfer ownership of any clubs first. Closing removes sign-in access, private account details, social connections, message and forum content, and saved practice progress. Published sporting records, replay evidence and audit records can remain as described in the Privacy policy.
We may restrict or suspend access for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, a security risk, or a legal obligation. We will explain the reason where permitted and practical, and consider requests for review. Urgent protective action may happen before notice. A platform suspension does not itself revise an event’s published results; sporting corrections follow the event process.
8. Responsibility and your legal rights
Use reasonable care with your account, content and device. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the free service is provided as available, without promises of fitness for a particular purpose or perfectly accurate simulation. We are not responsible for losses caused solely by your misuse of the service, other users, or failures outside our reasonable control.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud, intentional misconduct, gross negligence, or death or personal injury caused by negligence where applicable. Your mandatory consumer rights, remedies and data-protection rights remain in force. These terms impose no compulsory arbitration, class-action waiver or waiver of those rights.
9. Changes to these terms
We will publish revised terms here with an updated date and version. Material changes will be brought to your attention before they apply where required, and features requiring recorded acceptance will ask for the new version. Changes do not retrospectively remove rights or alter completed results. If you do not accept a change, you may stop using the affected features and close your account.
10. Contact and disputes
SailPolars is operated by Paraply Ventures AS, a company registered in Norway. Paraply Ventures AS is the data controller responsible for the personal data processed to provide SailPolars.
Contact us at hello@sailpolars.com for questions about the service, complaints, privacy requests and child-safety concerns.
Please first contact us about a service complaint so we can try to resolve it. Sporting disputes follow the relevant event’s published process. Applicable mandatory law continues to govern; these terms do not require consumers to bring claims in a foreign court or prevent access to a competent court, regulator or dispute-resolution body.
